just like any good project manager - we have a risk list!

current

high

  1. poor ergonomics - I invested over $1300 in ergonomics my 4 years in Thailand. I am working on a laptop much like I was when I was in sales in San Francisco. My butt starts to hurt sometimes and need to always be aware of my back, neck, and wrists. Hady suggested to me to meter my computer time each day.
  2. no income - I am not permitted to work in Japan during my temporary status. I am on a mission to secure a job and leave the country and return on a work visa and be here for 2 years.

medium

  1. weather changes - after being in Thailand for 4 years - consistent hot weather is really pleasant. now i have to deal with fluctuations in temperature controlled by the sun in the Spring!
  2. basic Japanese Language - many positions (even if they are looking for those who speak English) look for business Japanese. I am looking for an organization that is willing to send me.
  3. iCal & iPhone don't sync properly - this has happened quite a few times in the past - there is some issue with iCal being left out of the iSync loop or something. it's really frustrating!

low

  1. regular meals - I still have a habit of not eating on time. I am looking to build my cooking "capability" and this will take time. I have the basics and tend not to put down my work in the interests of eating lunch or dinner. people help esp if they are willing to eat in the immediate area I am in. ok - willing to give up a story and start over!
  2. iPhone not on 3G - I can't receive any important calls while I am out and about or check email. I don't have a full web browser at my fingertips for maps, my todo lists, Google Docs, and facebook. research (a la Google search)
  3. docs created in Parallels Desktop not part of Time Machine backup.
    • floppy can reside in home folder - very cool!
    • not mitigated: GTD Outlook Add-in - data is "embedded" in .pst

mitigated

  1. no financial forecast - I have lost a handle in regards to whether my cash flow will meet my needs for the next few months. I used to use MS Money while in the bay area to keep my cash expenses under control!
    • using software again.
  2. one business suit - I only have one wool business suit with me. not only will this get pretty hot come summer - it also means if I spill something on it (knock on wood) or get soaked in the rain or it gets dirty, I don't have an outfit.
    • settle with business casual in an "emergency"
  3. replacement iPhone if lost/broken - I get caught using my iPhone in the rain. it might ruin the circuitry where the earpiece is (fortunately this seems to be the only inlet at risk). the iPhone is not available here and neither do I know where to get one (like MBK)
    • pull out paper organizational methods
