to eval

  1. share My Documents and My Pictures (the latter which I don’t think would be *that* useful considering iPhoto is my photo db)

gripes

  1. Parallels in Unity mode doesn't appear to deal with post sleep, screensaver, screen timeout mode....
    • huh? need more context.... :/
  2. seems to keep my CPU fan running like a blow dryer even when there are no apps running (outside of system itself) and it is pretty much in the background
    • uses 7-12% of CPU after clean boot
    • I think VMWare was a bit better about keeping processes sleeping while I am primarily in mac mode... (only conjecture - i really would have to use Parallels for a month and see what happens and then go back to VMWare and compare my experience - 15 day eval surely isn't much for something that is at the core/baseline of what runs your system!)
    • seems to have hit a steady state after 5-10 minutes...
  3. ouch - just after I commit to this software, it got screwy on me after putting it in Coherence mode
    • I couldn't see MS Outlook and MS Money after awhile! (oh the irony)
    • WORKAROUND: ended up force quitting the Parallels Desktop main process (yikes)- i couldn't even get to the task bar!
    • RECOMMENDATION: stick to Single Window mode during this time!
  4. seems to screw up mounting of optical discs.
    • BEHAVIOR: when I insert a blank DVD-RW, the device is reported busy in Disk Utility until I quit Parallels Desktop!
    • WORKAROUND: do not connect optical disc on startup
  5. I tried to pause my machine when I am not using it. Eventually it disappeared. the app is still in the dock and doesn't respond (but not frozen)
