GTD Outlook Add-in.
How I got here
I bought this Add-In after completing David Allen's 2-day
GTD workshop in Feb 2003. I lost my laptop and haven't touched it since I made a commitment to Web 2.0 and took on
Mac OS X in Aug 2004. Intel-based macintoshes came out in 2006. I purchased a
macbook in 2007. I purchased
Windows and
Parallels Desktop in 2008. I've been experimenting with
Mission Control for nearly a year without a project list in existence and now using
Microsoft Outlook to accomplish this task as I've already made the investment in software blessed by David Allen Co.
Intention
- I continue to be related to the Windows world
- I have offline access to my project lists with Plaxo synchronizing all my data online automatically
- I get related to technology the GTD community is provided and has gone unchanged since 2004 (lots of innovation happens in this period of time!)
- I resume the majority of my project planning at the desktop. I'm focused.
Evaluation
2.0 version not bad but still seems a wee bit awkward.
- subprojects are not TaskItems. thus you can't search for them or attach notes.
- an appointment that is not on your "main" calendar will not show up in the project view
- don't see any way to rename "Someday" to NDN (a la Mission Control)
- NVDN is an "action type" for the time being
- "Active Tasks by Action (GTD)" seems to be the only "practical" view
- "Active Tasks by Subproject" seems a bit hokey - i don't even see it listing various sub-projects (what's the point?)
- if you double click on a Task that is categorized as a project, it would be nice if the project view would just open up.
- project review looks a bit tedious. it would be nice if at the very least, there were next/previous project buttons on the project form.
- the data is stored in a flat file. doesn't make it trivial to backup the data by dragging/copying the file.
- you can't make subprojects as complete. I question it's functionality and purpose again!
