this is what I'm starting with in Tokyo! my first grocery trip was well under 8000 yen..not bad!
  1. Rice
    • furikake, plums, silk seaweed
  2. pasta & sauce
  3. bread
  4. tea (soba & green)
  5. noodles (soba & udon)
    • soba & soba sauce, natto, daikon, onion
    • udon & nato, seaweed, raw egg, onion
  6. miso
    • fish stock base
    • seaweed, tofu, onion
  7. juice (veggie & grapefruit)
  8. milk
  9. curry (japanese.java.lowfat, thai.{green, red})
  10. mushrooms (dried)
  11. soy sauce
  12. tofu
  13. seaweed (flat, silk, soup)
  14. miso paste
  15. kimchee - i'm pretty sure this is korean staple - supposedly healthy and good with rice!
  16. ground sesame - Uncle Napot recommended it
  17. crackers (saltines, rice, raisin)
  18. granola - a bit expensive but good, easy, fast breakfast
  19. jam (maple)
  20. eggs
  21. butter
  22. pancake mix - woo hoo!
  23. 7 spice powder
  24. yogurt
    • kiwi

to get

  1. veggies - just try em!
  2. fruit jam - looking for natural, no added sugar
